We’re excited to share that Salsa has reimagined how payroll and accounting should work together – starting with a new product we’re launching called Salsa Sync, now available with QuickBooks Online. This powerful feature goes beyond what's traditionally offered in other payroll products, finally making deep syncing between payroll and accounting truly effortless for employers – and unlocking new opportunities for our partners.
The missing sync
Until now, employers had to choose between two poor options: manually sync payroll data to accounting and get the level of detail they needed (with a lot of extra work), or use the primitive accounting integrations most payroll products offer, which automate the process but skip over the detail entirely.
This tradeoff led to what’s become one of the most common sources of payroll-to-bookkeeping errors: data falling out of sync, or getting posted inaccurately.
We built Salsa Sync’s QuickBooks integration in direct response to this gap. For the first time, employers can have both: automation and accuracy – without compromise. Employers connect their accounts once, map their payroll items, and let Salsa take care of the rest.
What was the secret sauce that helped create this deep link between payroll and accounting? A large part of the Salsa team previously built QuickBooks Payroll at Intuit – giving us years of insight into how native-level integrations should work. We took those learnings and reimagined how Salsa partners can deliver that same level of depth and accuracy – not just in theory, but in the products they bring to market.
A win for employers
For employers, this means no more spreadsheets, no more manual reconciliation, and no more chasing down missing entries. What used to take hours now happens automatically and accurately.
This not only streamlines daily workflows and reduces errors – it also helps finance teams close the books faster and with more confidence, while strengthening the reliability of Salsa’s data in employers’ financial systems.
A win for partners
For partners, it’s a game-changer. QuickBooks is a critical part of many employers’ tech stacks, and the lack of integration has historically been a barrier to adoption.
But not all integrations are created equal. When partners evaluate embedded payroll providers, they often look for checkbox features they know their customers care about – but post-launch, those features often don’t hold up. That creates churn, escalations, and costly rebuilds.
Salsa’s approach is different. We aim to eliminate those surprises entirely by building deeply considered features from the start.
This isn’t just about adding functionality – it’s about removing a blocker that improves conversion, expands reach, and helps partners retain more customers. With this release, partners can serve a broader market – including employers who previously walked away due to accounting limitations – and do so with confidence in the quality and completeness of the solution.
Built for real-world accounting workflows
Widely available accounting integrations often fall short. They offer limited mapping, rigid sync timing, and little control over journal structure – forcing employers to work around the tool instead of with it.
What sets this integration apart is the level of flexibility and control it gives employers. Salsa uniquely supports journal entry creation at the worker payment level – even across multiple payroll runs – giving teams greater precision in how payroll data hits the books.
Employers can decide exactly when their data syncs, whether immediately after submission or only after final payroll approval, helping avoid premature syncs while numbers may still be changing.
With robust chart of accounts mapping, each section of the journal can be customized independently – from wages to deductions to contributions – whether mapped to a single general ledger account or broken out in full detail. This ensures every journal reflects the employer’s exact accounting structure and reporting needs.
How to enable it
If you’re already using Salsa, the integration is live in production – but it’s turned off by default.
Partners can request access in their Sandbox environment to test it out. Once activated, a new “Accounting” card will appear in the Employer Profile component.
If you’re using the includeCards prop, don’t forget to add "accounting" to your configuration.
When you're ready to go live, just notify the Salsa team and we’ll flip the switch for you.
